JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has filed suit against the Biden-Harris Administration for refusing to turn over records he had requested about the illicit prosecutions of President Trump. His request for communications – documents, calendar appointments, meeting minutes and agendas – included those between the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the offices of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, New York Attorney General Leticia James, and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
“Thanks to evidence that has come to light, my office has reason to believe the Biden-Harris Administration and its corrupt Department of Justice is the headquarters of the illicit prosecutions against President Trump,” said Attorney General Bailey. “That’s why we demanded the DOJ turn over documents that we believe will expose these political prosecutions for what they are: a witch hunt. But they have refused to comply with the law. I’m taking them to court because Missourians have a right to know to what extent the prosecutions of a prominent presidential candidate are being coordinated by the federal government, which is currently run by President Trump’s principal political opponent.”
In May, Attorney General Bailey demanded the DOJ turn over all communications related to the investigation or prosecution of President Trump. The DOJ has failed to respond to the Attorney General’s request by the statutory deadline and did not provide any notice in delaying its response.
In the complaint, Attorney General Bailey reminds the Court, “These actions are emblematic of a double standard in the administration of justice, where powerful political interests influence prosecutorial decisions to achieve specific outcomes, undermining public trust in the integrity of the justice system. This misuse of federal authorities directly impacts millions of Missourian’s who plan to participate in the upcoming presidential election.”
“By denying access to these documents, the DOJ has effectively obstructed attempts by the public to scrutinize the motivations behind its decisions, including the timing and basis for initiating legal proceedings against Mr. Trump,” he added.
“At a time when citizens are rightly skeptical of many of the actions of their own government, it is crucial to restore public confidence. Sunlight is the best antiseptic and in this instance, there is truly no substitute,” General Bailey concluded.
Attorney General Bailey is requesting the Court to order the DOJ to produce all communications originally requested.
