CARBONDALE, Ill. — A bewitchingly entertaining day awaits visitors at the Haunted Hollow, Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s family friendly Halloween festival at Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center.
Everyone is welcome to join the fun from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at Touch of Nature, located about 8 miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road.
Wide array of thrills
The fest features an eclectic mix of thrills and experiences. Free activities include the haunted cabin – no worries, it’s not too scary, organizers say – yard games and other fun, and six different themed activities in the little brown cabins. Participants will also get the opportunity to hold and learn all about snakes and other creepy crawly critters. Ticketed activities include a family hayride, a portable climbing wall, a bouncy house, face painting, pumpkin painting and Saluki Soar. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
Visitors can purchase grilled hotdogs, hamburgers and frightening desserts as well.
Costumes are encouraged, but organizers remind participants to dress for the weather as activities are outdoors and will take place rain or shine. The happenings are suitable for all ages, and the grounds are wheelchair- and stroller-accessible. A parent or guardian must accompany children.
