Ste. Genevieve County sales tax revenue continues to lag

STE. GENEVIEVE — Ste. Genevieve County sales tax revenue continues to fall with each succeeding month showing a wider gap between the current year to date and previous years.

The latest transfer of sales tax revenue happened earlier this month, with the Missouri Department of Revenue transferring just over $77,000 from the half cent sales into the county’s MRV Banks account.

That brings the current year to date figure to $640,785, which is $117,559 shy of the same period last year.

The county’s one percent community center tax is down more than $235,000; the county’s half-cent law enforcement tax is down nearly $118,000

How much of the shortfalls is due to a slowdown in retail sales and how much is due to the state legislature exempting certain mining and industrial item from the sales tax is uncertain.
