CARBONDALE – Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Chancellor Austin A. Lane has released the following message about plans for the first week of the spring semester.
Dear fellow Salukis:
After three days of on-campus testing by Reditus Laboratories, the results reveal a positivity rate of 2.5 percent of 1,487 employees and 6.3 percent of 847 students, for a total of 2,334 results as of 4 p.m. yesterday.
However, we have yet to test the majority of our students, many of whom will move back to campus tomorrow. To those of you who tested this week, thank you for doing your part to care for yourself and protect your community.
Next week, we are expanding our testing capabilities to get all students tested, regardless of vaccination status, thanks to our partnership with Reditus Laboratories. We have expanded hours and added a day of testing and more stations to accommodate more people and keep wait times short.
The revised testing schedule for next week is: Monday, Jan. 10, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Wednesday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Thursday, 6 a.m.-2 p.m. If you make an appointment, the process will be quick.
Visit the on-campus testing page and follow the instructions at the bottom of the page.
You can also test on a walk-in basis, which is first come, first served.
First week of spring 2022 plans include a mix of virtual and face-to-face classes
We will start the spring semester on Monday, Jan. 10, as planned. However, in the interest of health and safety, the vast majority of classes will be virtual for the first week of the semester. This will ensure all students and employees have the opportunity to be tested and receive results in a timely manner.
Some classes will be face to face. Students should check the list of face-to-face courses on our COVID website and may contact their academic advisors if they have questions. Offices will remain open, and we will have in-person events and activities on campus, with protocols in place.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to respond to the pandemic.
