Missouri Commission on Human Rights supports creating a human rights culture

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Commission on Human Rights (MCHR) works to prevent and eliminate discrimination by upholding anti-discrimination laws through the enforcement of the Missouri Human Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination in employment, housing, and places of public accommodations.

Under the leadership of Dr. Alisa Warren, MCHR Executive Director, and President of the International Association of Official Human Rights Agencies (IAOHRA), we proudly host the 75th Anniversary IAOHRA Conference in St. Louis, Missouri, from August 11-15, 2024. The conference theme is “Creating a Human Rights Culture” and will feature such notable experts as Dr. Pedro Noguera, education reform expert; Diane M. Shelley, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; Maya Wiley, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights; and Mauro Morales, U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

Dr. Warren stated, “The primary goal of this historic convening is to equip human rights and relations leaders with the resources, expertise, and networks needed to effectively protect the rights of all individuals and bolstering the ability to champion human rights within their communities. We strive to cultivate a robust human rights culture by promoting mutual understanding, combating hatred, and inspiring transformative progress.”

As the sole network of its kind, IAOHRA serves nearly 250 million people and is dedicated to preventing discrimination and safeguarding civil and human rights laws in its members’ jurisdictions. Likewise, the MCHR mission is to prevent discrimination through education and outreach and to eliminate discrimination by enforcing the Missouri Human Rights Act. Comprising commissioners from each congressional district in the state, MCHR is an autonomous commission based in the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
