PCSD No. 32 school board report

PERRYVILLE — The Perry County School District No. 32 Board of Education met Wednesday for a work session.

 

The workshop was called to order by Nancy Voelker, President of the board, at 7 p.m.

 

Facilities & Infrastructure assessment: Hannah White, program manager for Schneider Electric, informed the board how an energy and efficiency audit could benefit the district as we consider long-range goals and long range facilities plan.

 

Hannah White explained Schneider’s process for site audits to capture savings through efficiency upgrades that can then be reinvested in other facility improvements. The board tabled the mo- tion and will revisit this during the June 12th board meeting.

 

Surplus Equipment—Bus Depreciation: Sarah Orf, Transportation Director, informed the board of sev- eral buses that were depreciating and proposed to publicize the sell of district surplus equipment. The board tabled the motion and requested additional information. The board will revisit this during the June 12th board meeting.

 

Budget Review: Discussion, various perceptions, and many questions surfaced as the board reviewed the budget data presented by Dr. Jones. The board reflected on historical events and the traditions established over the years. Their sights were focused on a strong curriculum and a balanced budget among other priorities. Dr. Jones’s attention to details and transparency was acknowledged by the board members. Dr. Jones presented several scenario’s to the board for the FY’ 2024-25 budget, thus allowing them to decide the district’s direction.

 

The board was informed and approved the following retirement and resignations.

 

RESIGNATIONS:

 

1) Cassie Cole as a counselor effective June 30, 2024.

2) Ty Crowden as a middle school P.E. instructor, boys basketball coach and high school asst. track coach effective June 30, 2024.

3) Amber Dunn as a middle school teacher effective June 30, 2024.

4) Jacquelyn Brophy as a paraprofessional teacher aide effective May 10, 2024.

5) Crystal Brown as a paraprofessional student aide effective June 30, 2024.

 

RETIRING:

 

1) Patricia Gegg as a paraprofessional teacher aide effective June 30, 2024.

 

The board approved to employ the following staff members for the 2024-2025 school year:

 

NEW HIRES:

 

1) Michelle Thompson as a paraprofessional, teacher aide. 2) Shai Cox as a paraprofessional, teacher aide.

3) Marilyn Long as a custodian.

4) Jeff Steffens as a bus driver.

 

The board was informed of lateral transfers for the 2024-2025 school year: 1) Drew Korando will transfer to the middle school P.E. Instructor.
