Jefferson Co. Sheriff’s Office investigates deaths of two children

HILLSBORO — Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak has announced a criminal charge against the suspect in a double homicide investigation.

36-year-old Ashley Parmeley of Pevely is charged with one count of Murder – 2nd Degree.

Sheriff Marshak stated the charge stems from the death of her two-year-old son, who was found unresponsive in a body of water in the 4800 block of US Highway 67 near De Soto and was later pronounced dead.

Parmeley is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

The sheriff said the investigation into the death of Parmeley’s nine-year-old daughter continues, and investigators with the Sheriff’s Office intend to apply for further charges through the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

“The men and women of the Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Festus Police Department, Jefferson County 911 Dispatch, the Joachim Plattin Ambulance District, Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Trisha Stefanski’s office, and the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for their cooperation in this case,” Sheriff Marshak said. “We also extend our deepest sympathies to the family and all first responders who were touched by today’s tragedy.”
