Missouri House marks end of legislative session

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Today, the Missouri House of Representatives’ leadership marked the successful end to the first regular session of the 103rd General Assembly at the Missouri State Capitol. Over the course of five months, the House of Representatives put Missouri families first and passed 67 bills.

“Together, House members have worked to make life safer, better, and more affordable for Missouri families, and I couldn’t be more proud to serve alongside such a dedicated group of public servants,” Speaker Jon Patterson, R-Lee’s Summit, said. “From foster children to law enforcement and from Missouri seniors to small business owners, this session was marked by incredible successes by House Republicans on behalf of all Missourians.”

The House of Representatives Republican Conference celebrates successes on a number of priorities, including:

  • Protecting Missouri children, especially our children in foster care and ensuring they have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive (HB 737, Rep. Melissa Schmidt);
  • Improving public safety, by focusing on better recruiting and retaining of law enforcement officers (HB 495, Rep. Brad Christ);
  • Providing legislative clarity to Amendment 3, and protecting the health and safety of Missouri women and their babies (HJR 73, Rep. Ed Lewis);
  • Supporting small businesses and clarifying sick leave requirements so small businesses can continue providing jobs for our communities (HB 567, Rep. Sherri Gallick); and
  • Supporting Military families and Veterans (HB 419, Rep. Don Mayhew and HB 262, Rep. Chris Brown).

“The results of this session put Missouri families first, and we are proud to have expanded educational freedom, improved our public safety, cut taxes, and supported the heath of women and their babies,” Majority Floor Leader Alex Riley, R-Springfield, said.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work my colleagues and I accomplished in the House this session. We passed conservative legislation that will drive investment, grow our economy, and support Missouri’s working families,” Speaker Pro Tem Chad Perkins, R-Bowling Green, said.

The House of Representatives also passed a balanced state operating budget with historic investments in K-12 education, public safety, and transportation while leaving $1.3 billion on the bottom line to sustain Missouri into the future.
