STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. — The Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park invites the public to attend the premiere of “Pélagie X,” a short film chronicling the life of Pélagie Amoureux, on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the recently rehabilitated Bauvais-Amoureux House.
Created by a two-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker and produced by Breakwater Studios, “Pélagie X” will debut at 6 p.m. as the centerpiece of a celebration marking the completion of the Bauvais-Amoureux House rehabilitation project. The historic property at 327 St. Marys Road stands as one of Ste. Genevieve’s significant cultural landmarks.
“We are simply floored that this film was made. It aligns perfectly with the efforts of the city to elevate the way we tell our story. It doesn’t get more elevated than a two-time Academy Award Winning studio. It wouldn’t have been possible without Don Strand (one of the Pélagie descendants who will be on hand). He fell in love with the story and worked relentlessly in spreading it.” said Aaron Smith, Tourism Marketing Director for Ste. Gen. “It just goes to show how important and unique our history in Ste. Gen is. These are world-class stories and this is a world-class destination.”
The celebration runs from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., featuring:
- Guided tours of the newly rehabilitated Bauvais-Amoureux House
- Historical exhibits detailing the building’s significance
- Conversations with National Park Service staff about the restoration process
- The premiere of “Pélagie X” at 6:00 p.m.
- A special opportunity to meet the film’s lead actor and actual descendants of Pélagie Amoureux
Visitors attending the film screening are encouraged to bring their own chairs, non-alcoholic drinks, and snacks.
The entire event is free and open to the public.
The Bauvais-Amoureux House represents a significant piece of the region’s French colonial heritage and stands today as a testament to the preservation efforts of the National Park Service. The rehabilitation project has carefully restored the property while maintaining its historical integrity.
