STE. GENEVIEVE – On Friday, May 2, Ste. Genevieve High School’s SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) chapter hosted its annual mock accident event for the Class of 2025, bringing an impactful safety demonstration to campus in partnership with multiple local emergency response teams.
The simulation was designed to give students a realistic view of what happens at the scene of a serious motor vehicle crash—and to drive home the importance of sober, distraction-free driving as seniors prepare for graduation and summer activities.
Emergency personnel from the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office, Ste. Genevieve City Police Department, Ste. Genevieve Volunteer Fire Department, and Ste. Genevieve EMS responded to the staged accident as if it were a real emergency. SGHS students enrolled in the school’s EMT course also participated, working alongside professionals to triage and manage the scene.
Ste. Genevieve Towing generously provided and staged the vehicles used in the simulation, helping to create an authentic crash site. Following the exercise, Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Dallas Thompson addressed the senior class, delivering a powerful presentation on the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.
SADD faculty sponsor Bre Uzzell expressed her appreciation for the community collaboration that makes this event possible each year. “We’re grateful to all of our local emergency services for taking the time to create a meaningful and memorable experience for our students,” she said. “This event can save lives by helping students think twice before making dangerous decisions behind the wheel.”
The event serves as an important reminder during a season often filled with celebrations—encouraging students to protect themselves and others by making safe choices on the road.
