A funeral will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 for 86-year-old John L. “Butch” Russell of Chester, Ill., who passed away at 5:53 pm, Friday, May 9, 2025 at SIH Memorial Hospital Carbondale, Carbondale, Ill.
He was born April 6, 1939 in St. Louis, Mo. to John R. and Martha (nee Kiefer) Barnes. They preceded him in death.
He is survived by a sister: Joan Brown of St. Charles, Mo. and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Shirley and Peggy Barnes
John was a retired handyman and worked for several places in his life.
He enjoyed fishing and was a life member of the North American Fishing Club.
John was a United States Navy Veteran.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Pechacek Funeral Homes, Chester, Ill.
A funeral for 86-year-old John L. “Butch” Russell of Chester, Ill. will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes, Chester, Ill. The Rev. Curt Rabe will officiate.
Interment will be in the Ellis Grove City Cemetery, Ellis Grove, Ill.
