Ste. Genevieve County Commission approves ferry rate increase

STE. GENEVIEVE – The cost of riding the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry across the Mississippi River increased last week.

That’s when the Ste. Genevieve county commission voted unanimously to approve the rate schedule proposed earlier by the New Bourbon Regional Port Authority Board.

The vote followed a presentation by New Bourbon representative Ron Inman.

In the presentation Inman stated:

-Rates have not been raised for Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry since 2014.

-Funding is depleting quickly for the day-to-day operations of the ferry and are no longer sustainable under current conditions.

-The port board realizes changes have to occur if operations are going to be able to continue.
