Rock-A-Thon will raise funds for the American Cancer Society

COLUMBIA, MO – Starting at 5 a.m. on April 24, Adam Kaiser, ‘The Rocker’, will sit in a rocking chair for 63 continuous hours in downtown Columbia, MO, as the rest of the Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) fraternity collects donations all around the city for the American Cancer Society (ACS). Since 1969, the men of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity at the University of Missouri-Columbia have raised over $1 million for ACS.

“Being in this position is the greatest honor anyone can achieve in this fraternity, and I can’t wait to continue doing all I can to support ACS,” said Adam Kaiser, AEPi senior who will be sitting in the chair for 63 hours. “I’m extremely passionate about the cause, and eager for the event to be underway, with the help of the entire chapter and campus.”

Throughout the event weekend, members of AEPi find unique and creative ways to raise money for the cause. Fundraisers will play chess matches, host basketball and golf challenges, take slaps in the face and more for the opportunity to earn a donation.

“The goal of the chapter for this event is no different than any other year: make a difference in any way we can,” said Noah Grimsley, AEPi senior and co-chairman of the fundraiser. “This is a beautiful time where the brotherhood comes together to support something larger than ourselves. It wouldn’t be possible without the support of ACS and the entire city of Columbia.”

Rock-A-Thon is a biennial fundraiser put on by AEPi Mizzou in partnership with the American Cancer Society. One fraternity brother sits in a rocking chair for 63 hours straight (downtown on Broadway), while the rest of the chapter collects donations throughout Columbia. The event began in 1969, and has since raised over $1 million for the American Cancer Society. In 2023, AEPI Rock-A-Thon raised over $190,000 for head, neck, and brain cancer research, breaking their own record and remaining the largest single chapter Greek philanthropy event in the world. This year’s event will support pancreatic cancer research.
