Free courses help Missourians find, prepare for jobs, and build personal finance skills

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (MDHEWD) has partnered with Coursera to launch three new courses to help Missourians strengthen their job search, job readiness, and finance skills at no cost.

The three new courses are now available online and include:

Missouri Job Ready Day One: This course provides foundational skills important to success in the workplace, such as effective communication, time management, problem solving, and teamwork skills.

Basic Financial Literacy: This course focuses on skill building in personal finance, such as budgeting, saving, personal cash flow, and financial planning.

Job Search Skills & Success: This course offers training in networking, job searching, building a personal brand, creating effective résumés, and job interviewing.

Coursera, which provide over 168 million learners worldwide with job-relevant education, offers a self-paced learning model and can be downloaded through a mobile app to allow individuals the flexibility to learn anywhere, anytime. Participants will receive a certificate once each individual course is completed, or they can choose to combine the courses and earn a Missouri Career Success Certificate.

“We are excited for the opportunity to extend this resource to all Missourians,” said Julie Carter, Director of the Office of Workforce Development. “These interactive courses will provide Missouri citizens a strong foundation in essential workplace and financial skills, ultimately preparing them for long-term professional success.”

“Since 2020, our collaboration with the State of Missouri has helped thousands of people gain the skills they need to get back on their feet and into good jobs,” said Sam Combs, Director of U.S. Public Sector at Coursera. “These new courses expand that vision by providing the foundational skills Missourians need to build confidence, earn a steady income, and succeed in today’s evolving workforce.”

Missourians can apply for a free course through Coursera at jobs.mo.gov/coursera.
