Home school bill held on 3rd reading, not brought up for a vote

SPRINGFIELD – In the Illinois House of Representatives Friday, House Bill 2827, the Homeschool Act, was officially HELD on third reading by the bill’s sponsor, meaning it was not brought for a vote.

According to State Representative Amy Elik (R-Alton) a staunch opponent of the legislation, “We will be keeping a very close eye on this, but this is a BIG victory.”

The bills sponsor, Terra Costa Howard (D-Lombard), took to the floor to blame misinformation for the failure of her bill.

Representative Elik responded to the “misinformation” comments, saying she stood up for the 130,000 Illinois homeschool families.  Elik said her message to the families is “I hear you and I will keep fighting for you, so this bill never comes back again.”
