SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Across the Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland region, Girl Scouts are stepping up to combat hunger in their communities. Throughout April, troops will collect non-perishable food donations and deliver them to local food banks and pantries to support families facing food insecurity across our 67-county footprint.
Through this initiative, Girl Scouts are demonstrating the power of community service by engaging with our local businesses and encouraging ourselves and our neighbors to give back.
Community Collection
Girl Scout troops will distribute door hangers in their local neighborhoods, inviting households to leave non-perishable food donations outside for pickup on Saturday, May 3.
Partnering with Local Businesses
Troops will also be bringing flyers to local businesses, encouraging them to take part by hosting food collection drives at their locations. Businesses that donate directly to a food bank and submit a report will receive a Fighting Hunger patch as recognition for their support.
Join the Fight Against Hunger!
Whether you’re a regular citizen or a business owner, your local Girl Scouts believe you can help them fight hunger in your community. Check for door hangers outside your home, and if you receive one, make sure to have your non-perishable food donations out on the curb for Girl Scout pickup on Saturday, May 3.

We Are Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from community to community, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
