Lutheran Family and Children’s Services recognizes Child Abuse Prevention Month in April

CAPE GIRARDEAU – Lutheran Family and Children’s Services (LFCS), one of Missouri’s longest-serving social service agencies, is recognizing Child Abuse Prevention Month in April by highlighting the crucial need for intervention, support, and healing for Missouri children and families impacted by abuse and neglect.

In Missouri, thousands of children are affected by maltreatment each year, underscoring the vital role of organizations like LFCS in providing safety and care.

“Child Abuse Prevention Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the prevalence of child maltreatment in Missouri and the importance of prevention,” said Heather Wall, Director of Parenting Services. “Our team works to provide safety, healing, and resources to those navigating the devastating effects of abuse and neglect.”

Instead of solely focusing on intervention after abuse has occurred, LFCS is dedicated to building resilient families and preventing child abuse before it starts. Through various programs, including parenting education, early prevention services, and community support networks, LFCS helps families with the tools and resources they need to thrive.

Throughout April, LFCS encourages the community to support child abuse prevention efforts. The following are ways to get involved:

“We are committed to creating brighter futures for Missouri children and their families,” said Wall. “By working together, we can build a community where every child is safe, supported, and loved.”
