ALTENBURG – A lightning strike is getting the blame for a blaze that destroyed the visitor’s center at the Saxon Lutheran Memorial Sunday night.
A post on the memorial’s Facebook page includes photographs of the blaze and an update posted Monday morning that stated the Fire Marshal confirmed the cause was a lightning strike.
No one was hurt in the blaze which was fought by the Perryville Fire Department and other departments as well.
They were able to contain the fire to the visitor’s center. It didn’t spread to other structures on the memorial’s grounds.
