A funeral will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025 for 78-year-old John “Butch” R. Huff, of Smithton, Illinois, who passed away at 3:12 p.m, Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born September 19, 1946 in East St. Louis, Ill. to the John M. and Fannie E. (nee Haeffner) Huff who both preceded him in death.
Butch married Carolyn D. Collins on March 14, 1968, at Edgemont Bible Church, Belleville, Illinois; she preceded him in death on July 10, 2015.
He is survived by three children: John E. Huff of Belleville, Ill., Theresa Scully (David Goring) of Smithton, Ill. and Jenny (Rich) Kehrer Smithton, Ill.; a brother: Bill Huff of Mascoutah, Ill.; five grandchildren: Louis Kehrer, Kris Scully, Peyton Kehrer, Ava Scully, and Vivian Kehrer; a nephew:
Billy (Amy) Huff Collinsville, Ill.; a niece Julie (Matt) Meinert of Florissant, MO and several great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also preceded in death by: a sister-in-law: Patricia “Pat” Huff.
He worked as a mail carrier for the United States Post Service for 34 years and served as President of NALC Branch #155 for over 20 years.
Butch was a member of St. Matthew Church, Belleville, Illinois. He started the Belleville NALC Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive and was also the Labor Man of the Year in 1996.
He was a Vietnam Navy Veteran.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025 at St. Matthew Church, Belleville, Illinois
A funeral for 78-year-old John “Butch” R. Huff, of Smithton, Illinois will be held at 7 p.m, Thursday, March 27, 2025 at St. Matthew Church, 1200 Moreland Drive, Belleville, IL 62223. The Rev. Bob Swickard will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, St. Jude Research Children’s Hospital, or to St. Matthew’s Missions Fund.
Butch and Carol will be inurned together at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri at a later date.
