SPRINGFIELD – Illinois State Senators Chris Balkema (R-Channahon) and Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) held a Capitol press conference Thursday to call attention to a proposal they say will lead to higher property taxes and fewer local services.
In response to legislation that supports Governor Pritzker’s consolidation goals that he outlined in his annual Budget/State of the State Address in February, Balkema and Rose outlined alternatives that support consolidation in a smarter, more localized approach.
Illinois is ranked as having the second-highest effective property tax rate in the nation, according to the Tax Foundation (https://taxfoundation.org/data/all/state/property-taxes-by-state-county/)
