A funeral will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025 for 86-year-old Robert “Bob” Allen Asbury of Steeleville, Illinois, who went home to be with Jesus at 5:20 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2025 peacefully at his home.
He was born one of eight children on July 22, 1938 to the late Ray and Marie (nee Stump) Asbury in Rockwood, Illinois. Bob was the last surviving child of Ray and Marie.
On July 25, 1959, Bob married his loving wife, Darlene Hartman at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Steeleville, Illinois; she survives. They celebrated almost 66 years of marriage together.
Bob was a loving husband and father. His top priority was providing for his children. He enjoyed fishing, playing music (mainly the fiddle) and spending time with his family and friends. He loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his black Chihuahua dog “Sugar Babe”. Bob served in the Navy.
Bob became a child of God through Holy Baptism and was confirmed in his faith at the age of 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt, Illinois. He enjoyed going to church at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Bob’s confirmation verse was John 10: 27-28 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall and man pluck them out of my hand.”
He is survived by his wife: Darlene Asbury of Steeleville, IL; three children: Ervin (Theresa) Asbury of Steeleville, IL, Darla (Tim) Hollman of Red Bud, IL and Cheryl (Shane) Simmons of Chester, IL; six grandchildren: Ryan (Abbie) Asbury, Justin (Rachael) Asbury, Jennifer (Andrew) Langrehr, Emily (Nick) Grohmann, Heather (Jeff) Lee, Steven (Jenna) Uchtman, Joe (Alyse) Simmons and Danny Simmons; 13 great-grandchildren: Axton and Blakely Asbury, Liam, Amelia and Ben Langrehr, Jettson, Demi, Cash and Crew Grohmann, Miles and Emerson Lee, Ino Jo and (soon to be) Steven Jr. Robert Uchtman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Debra Marie Asbury; a sister: Sally Owens; six brothers: Joe Hardy, Sam Asbury, Donald “Buck” Asbury, Perry Asbury and Gary Keith Asbury.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes, Chester, Illinois and
8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Steeleville, Illinois.
A funeral service for 86-year-old Robert “Bob” Allen Asbury of Steeleville, Illinois will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Steeleville, Illinois, with the Rev. Mark Harris officiating.
Interment will be in the St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery in Steeleville, Illinois
