Manufacturers urge passage of legislation to increase nuclear power capacity

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA) released the following statement regarding HB3604, which is scheduled to be heard in the House Public Utilities Committee this week:

“Illinois has led the nation in embracing game-changing technology like quantum computing and artificial intelligence, which have the ability to revolutionize modern manufacturing and tackle some of our society’s most pressing challenges. To truly unleash the potential of these technological innovations, advance our economy and expand manufacturing production, the state must secure its energy supply. Key to that effort is expanding baseload generation through the possibility of nuclear development,” said Mark Denzler, President and CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association.

“By lifting the limits on nuclear facilities in Illinois, we can bolster the supply of clean energy needed to grow jobs and increase investments. Our state’s progress should not be limited by a lack of power, which is why it’s imperative that we plan for the future now. We’re proud to lead this initiative and look forward to continued collaboration with lawmakers, the governor’s office and stakeholders to build on Illinois’ longstanding leadership in nuclear energy.”
