St. Charles woman killed, five Ste. Genevieve residents and a Herrin teen hurt in I-55 crash in Jefferson Co. Friday night

JEFFERSON CITY — A St. Charles woman died and five Ste. Genevieve residents and a youth from Herrin, Illinois received minor injuries in a traffic crash on I-55 in Jefferson County Friday night.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the woman was the driver of a southbound 2014 Infiniti Q50 which went out of control after driving through a large puddle of water on the roadway.

 

The car ran off the left side of the roadway and struck the concrete median wall. The Infiniti then returned to the roadway and was hit by a southbound 2015 GMC Yukon . The impact caused the Infiniti to rotate clockwise and was then struck in the left side by a southbound 2000 Frieghtliner Century. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene and was taken to the St. Louis County Mortuary.

 

There were six persons in the Yukon, the 20-year-old who was driving and two other adults aged 46 and 45 and three younger persons aged 17, 16 and 14. All were buckled up and each received minor injuries. They were taken to Mercy Hospital South. Five of the occupants were from Ste. Genevieve. The 17-year-old was from Herrin.

 

The Freightliner was driven by a 31-year-old woman from Winston-Salem. North Carolina. She was buckled up and was unhurt.

 

The Infiniti was a total loss, the Yukon and the Freightliner each had extensive damage. All were towed by Miner’s Towing.

 

The crash happened about 11:43 p.m. north of Richardson Road.
