POTOSI, MO., — On Saturday, March 15, the Heartland Trail Trash volunteer group will hold a cleanup event to remove illegal trash from across a wide area of Mark Twain National Forest’s Potosi-Fredericktown Ragner District, and they can use your help! Last year, with over 60 volunteers, they were able to collect tons of illegal trash dumps from the Fredericktown area of the Forest. This year, they will focus on parts of the Forest west of Potosi in Washington and Crawford counties.
Heartland Trail Trash was founded by Missouri resident Chris Menz. He will be hosting this event and making it fun for everyone involved. Along with enjoying the rewarding experience of camaraderie in keeping the Forest looking beautiful, volunteers will be eligible for some free giveaways and can enjoy a contest to see who gets designated as the MVP—Most Valuable Picker-upper—of the day! Lunch will be provided as well.
“We are extremely grateful for groups like Heartland Trail Trash and individual volunteers who help us accomplish the mission of the agency,” stated Jordan Mays, a Mark Twain National Forest representative assisting with event coordination. “Heartland Trail Trash is a great group of citizens who are motivated and care deeply for their public lands.”
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 15th, volunteers will meet at one of two dumpster locations on the intersection of Grassy Hollow Rd and Pigeon Roost Rd. (approximately 14 miles west-southwest of Potosi in Harmony Township). From there, volunteers will divide into teams to work for a few hours, meet at same location for lunch, then have an afternoon session. Free giveaways are distributed to each person who attends. Please visit the event’s Facebook page for more information and to get connected.
