Mardi Gras on North Main

STE. GENEVIEVE – The activities start at 4pm and continue through the evening. Around 6pm there’ll be a lighted parade featuring the STE GEN MARDI GRAS KREWE-SERS who’ll be tossing beads to the crowd. We’re advising people to come early and get their spot on North Main.

By the way there’ll be NO PARKING in the 100 block of North Main during the event but parking is generally available in the neighborhood.

There’ll definitely be plenty to see and do along the sidewalk lighted fleur de lis trail.

Oliver’s restaurant is offering awesome Cajun and Creole style food, and our neighborhood food truck (Sister Cities Smokehouse) will be serving other traditional and spicy selections.

Wine, beer and special Mardi Gras drinks (Hurricanes) will be available.

As for dessert, a very French very traditional King Cake will be served at the everyone’s-welcome after-party at 8pm at the Hertich House. That’s where the Creative Costume contest will be held. Organizers say there’ll be a fabulous prize awarded, provided by the North Main Merchants.

Starting at 4pm and continuing til 8pm there’ll be live Dixieland, blues and jazz performed by the Mineral Area Fine Arts Academy at Music Art Love. You can create a Mardi Gras mask there and browse the store’s stock of clothing, jewelry, and decor.

Special Mardi Gras giveaways, Mardi Gras art, lots of original paintings and other interesting stuff will be featured at Eklektix gallery…all against a background of vintage recordings of traditional Mardi Gras music.

We know it’ll be cold but you can warm up near one of the uniquely intricate fire pits arranged along the block, made by local entrepreneur Sam Conlon. (Fire pits for your patio or yard will be for sale along with art, jewelry and other cool stuff at Sam’s Only Child Originals and Rust. Plus you can take a photo of your group in Masquerade on Main.)

All in all we think Mardi Gras on North Main is a great way to stay in touch with our town’s French connection and the spirit of old Ste. Genevieve. We hope lots of people will join us in celebrating that. It’s really going to be a local version of “laissez les bons temps rouler”–let the good times roll.”
