KINSEY – The Kinsey Fire Department along with several mutual aid departments were dispatched to the Holcim cement plant on the Mississippi River yesterday afternoon by a report of a conveyor belt on fire. The plant is located on the old Brickey’s Landing Road now an unnamed private road that goes east off Highway 61 to the river.
According to a post on the KVFD Facebook page, the crews battled fires inside of a belt system and a bag house.
A second alarm was sounded and a pumper task force was dispatched from Jefferson County.
Most of the fire was extinguished but not before the belt system collapsed causing several fire trucks to be trapped behind the silo. They were unable to make it out last night. Special equipment was said to be brought in to remove debris to free the trapped equipment. It was expected to arrive first thing this morning.
The KVFD thanked the Jefferson R7, Bloomsdale Fire Department, Weingarten Fire Department, Zell Fire Department, Ste Genevieve City Fire Department, Goose Creek Fire Department, Big River Fire Protection District, Festus Fire Department, De Soto Rural Fire Department, along with several other department’s who responded with the task force.
