Speaker Patterson celebrates first House bills passed

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – On Thursday, Speaker Jon Patterson celebrated the swift passage of House Bills (HB) 737 & 486HBs 594 & 508HBs 595 & 343, and HB 75 as the first round of legislation the House passed during the 103rd General Assembly.

“We set out an ambitious list of priority bills we knew must get accomplished,” Speaker Patterson, R-Lee’s Summit, said. “Our representatives remain hard at work, and we are proud to pass this first round of House Bills, which will each help make life safer, better, and more affordable for Missouri families. We also look forward to a swift review of this legislation by our Senate colleagues.”

The passage of these four priority House Bills was also celebrated by the bill sponsors:

“We have a responsibility to be good stewards for foster children, good stewards of their care, and good stewards of their finances. Missouri’s foster children deserve every opportunity to succeed,” Rep. Melissa Schmidt, R-Eldridge, said. “I think we can all agree that for Missouri children, we can do better. By ensuring their benefits are used for tuition, job training, and essential needs, we’re giving these kids the foundation they need for a better future.”.”

“As Republicans, we are committed to cutting taxes, especially unfair taxes,” Rep. Chad Perkins, R- Bowling Green, said. “House Bill 594 helps homeowners and small business owners alike by cutting the capital gains tax and helps keep the American dream alive for the working man.”

“One of the major factors in a ‘housing crisis’ is the overregulation of property ownership,” Rep. Chris Brown, R-Kansas City, said. “By passing House Bill 595, commonsense protections for property rights, we can reverse the shrinking number of Missourians willing to rent or lease housing across this state.”

“House Bill 75 makes it clear to local governments, that they can never shut down our churches again, said Rep. Cathy Jo Loy, R-Carthage, said. “I was proud to join my Republican colleagues in making very clear that in Missouri, our God given rights are non-negotiable. We look forward to sending this bill to the Senate and onto the Governor’s desk.”
