Rep. Friess responds to Madigan Verdict

RED BUD, ILOn Tuesday, Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan was found guilty on 10 counts of conspiracy, bribery, and wire fraud.

In response, State Representative David Friess (R-Red Bud) released the following statement:

“Today, justice was served as former House Speaker Michael J. Madigan was found guilty of multiple counts in federal court. No one, not even the most powerful politician, is above the law.

Madigan’s conviction shows the deep-rooted culture of corruption that has plagued Illinois for decades. While this verdict brings accountability, it’s only the first step. The current House rules, shaped under Madigan’s 40-year reign, remain virtually unchanged, allowing the same flawed system to persist under Democratic leadership.

“The people of Illinois deserve better. House Republicans are ready with meaningful ethics reforms to ensure that this state’s government works for the people, not for the political elite. It’s time for the majority party to stop protecting the legacy of corruption and join us in restoring integrity to Illinois politics.”

Rep. Friess proudly serves the people of the 115th District.
