Irma O. Fey

A funeral will be held Tuesday for 96-year-old Irma O. Fey of Chester, Illinois, who passed away at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at her residence.


She was born September 11, 1928 in Wine Hill, Illinois, to the late Herman and Lydia (nee Rubach) Opperman.


Irma married James “Jim” Fey on April 6, 1947 in Wine Hill, Illinois; he preceded her in death June 30, 2013.


She worked at the International Shoe Factory, a fabric store in Chester, and she was a cook at St. John Lutheran School in Chester.


Irma was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Chester Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Randolph County Farm Bureau. Irma enjoyed sewing, playing Pinochle, and the outdoors.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Donna (Roger) Sprengel of Swansea, Illinois, and Gina Fey of Chester; three grandchildren: Nathan (Charise) Sprengel of Jackson, Mo., Jonathan (Samantha) Sprengel Jefferson City, Mo., and Rachel (Jeff) Beavers of Lincoln, Nebraska and eight great grandchildren: Ryleigh, Brynn, Savanna, Madelynn, Alayna, Alara, Caleb and Emery.


Preceded in death by: parents, husband, a brother: Elmer Opperman, a sister: Florence Brockmeyer; a grandson and an infant sister.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois.

A funeral service for 96-year-old Irma O. Fey of Chester, Illinois, will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February18, 2025, St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois. The Rev. Timothy Sims, officiating.

Interment will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Wine Hill, Illinois.


Memorials may be made to the St. John Radio Fund, St. John New Facility Fund or the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
