SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Senator Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Justice’s lawsuit against the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago over their immigration sanctuary policies:
“This lawsuit is a direct consequence of Governor Pritzker’s dangerous decision to put politics ahead of public safety. Instead of allowing law enforcement to work with federal authorities to deport violent criminals, he has doubled down on policies that shield offenders and put innocent Illinoisans at risk.”
“I have been fighting to reverse these reckless policies, which is why I filed Senate Bill 1316 to fully repeal the TRUST Act. If Governor Pritzker truly cared about the safety of Illinois citizens, he would support this legislation today and end his Administration’s blatant obstruction of federal immigration enforcement.
“Enough is enough. We must empower our law enforcement officers to protect our communities, not tie their hands with reckless political mandates. The people of Illinois deserve better.”
