New rules require all private pesticide applicators to be licensed; training available at MU Extension

STE. GENEVIEVE – Recent federal regulations now require every individual who applies Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs) to have their own private pesticide applicator license—eliminating the previous allowance for supervision by a licensed applicator.

To comply with this and other Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Missouri Department of Agriculture standards, private pesticide applicators must complete training to demonstrate competency in safe pesticide handling and regulatory compliance. In Missouri, recertification is required every five years.

MU Extension’s Private Pesticide Applicator Training provides farmers and pesticide users with essential knowledge on reading pesticide labels, proper application techniques, chemical storage and disposal, and protecting pollinators and wildlife. The training also covers state and federal regulations and offers an opportunity for applicators to ask questions about the latest requirements.

To obtain or renew a Private Pesticide Applicator License, individuals must complete this training.

In-person training sessions for Sainte Genevieve County will be held on February 26, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and on March 14, 2025, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, at the Progress Sports Complex at 1300 Progress Parkway, Ste. Genevieve. There will be a $75 training fee.
