Alfred “Al” Keiser, 79 years old, of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at Evelyn’s House in St. Louis. He was born on Aug. 5, 1945, to Josephine (Westhoff) and John Keiser, who preceded him in death.
Al is survived by four sisters — Jane (Joseph) Wolken of Houston; Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Rush of St. Louis; Mary Jo (Gordon) Niehoff of Eureka, Mo.; and Karen Labarga of Palm Springs, Fla.; and also by three brothers — John (Angela) Keiser of Houston; Thomas (Nancy) Keiser of St. Louis; and Peter (Sandy) Keiser of Dallas. He is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews and their spouses and children, all of whom love their favorite “Uncle Al” very much.
Al enhanced life in his beloved “Ste. Gen” in many meaningful, beautiful ways. He taught generations of local children how to play the piano; sang in and led the church choir; and played the church organ for countless Masses, funerals, and weddings. He lovingly restored multiple historical homes in town, faithfully honoring their original craftsmanship; maintained breathtaking gardens that yielded an abundance of vegetation, blooms, nuts, and other delicious byproducts; and could effortlessly recall, with rich detail and complete accuracy, the full historical context of most any aspect of modern-day life. He did all of these things — and so many more — with great intention and care. As his many dear friends who knew him best can testify, he was “a fixture” in not only Ste. Gen but in the hearts of all those lucky enough to love him. We are so grateful for his life and legacy.
Visitation will be at Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m., and again on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 8 to 9:45 a.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the Ste. Genevieve Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m., with burial following at Valle Spring Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve.
