Charles ‘Charlie’ A. Meyer

Charles “Charlie” A. Meyer 93 years old of Arnold, Mo. passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025

at Jefferson Barracks VA medical Center in St. Louis, Mo.

 

He was born July 29, 1931 in Sainte Genevieve, Mo.

 

He married Clarabelle Louise (Bauman) Meyer on May 1, 1954

 

He is survived by: wife: Clarabelle Meyer of Arnold, Mo.; three sons: Rick (Paula) Meyer, Rodney Meyer, and Mike (Michelle) Meyer; two daughters: Renee (Mike) Hess, and Sherry (Paul) Vaeth; grandchildren: Rick (Gretchen) Meyer, Jr., Scott (Angela) Meyer, Ryan (Laura) Meyer, Dr. Kristen (Dr. Todd) Ulmer, Bill (Friend Angie) Hess, Casey (Tari) Hess, Wes (Cassie) Hess, Houston (Angie) Meyer, Brandon (Stephanie) Meyer, Jake (Kristina) Meyer, A.J. (Laura-Jean) Meyer, Patrick (Kylee) Meyer, Mikayla (Ben) Grote, Josh (Taylor) Meyer, Abby (Jon) Roth, Emma Meyer, Jeremy (Alicia) Vaeth, Maria (Matt) Pfaff, Rachel (Garrett) Kertz, Nick (Sarah) Vaeth; and 38 great-grandchildren so far.

 

Preceded in death by father: Albert Meyer; mother: Sophia T. (Kirchner) Meyer; son: Jim “Jumbo Cat” Meyer; siblings: Glennon A. Meyer, Wilma A. Stackle, Armella M. Bader, and Gerald L. Meyer; mother-in-law: Marie Bauman; and father-in-law: Aloys Bauman.

 

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zell and The American Legion in Arnold. He was a former member of Jefferson County Board of Realtors.

 

Charlie was often referred to, as “Shorty”. He loved God and was grateful for all of his blessings.  He was so proud that he served in the Air Force and he was lovingly cared for in hospice, at Jefferson Barracks, in St. Louis, MO.  

 

He loved learning about all things and he believed that a person is never too old to learn.  Throughout his career, he sold insurance, was a Real Estate agent, Broker, Appraiser for residential and commercial properties and a HUD inspector.

 

Shorty collected beer steins, rocks and gems. He also made and sold jewelry, and often painted scenery on canvas and saw blades. He took many online courses in his 80’s and 90’s, learning about copy writing. Shorty was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was very proud of his family.

 

He was loved by so many and will be sadly missed. Shorty’s humor, wit and stories will live on for years to come.

 

Visitation will be 9-11:30 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2025 at Basler Funeral Home in Sainte Genevieve, Mo.

 

A funeral will be held at noon Friday, February 21, 2050 for Charles “Charlie” A. Meyer of Arnold, Mo. at St. Joseph Catholic Church-Zell. The Rev. Gerald Blessing will officiate.

 

Burial will follow mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Zell, Mo.

 

Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 2210.
