Greetings from Jefferson City! By Mo. State Senator Mike Henderson JEFFERSON CITY – Thank you for the opportunity to represent you in the Missouri Senate. It is an honor I do not take lightly. The First Regular Session of the 103rd General Assembly officially kicked off Jan. 8 when I took the oath of office alongside nine fellow Senate freshmen, and we were sworn in with the re-elected Missouri senators. Thank you for your trust and support. The formalities continued on Jan. 13 with the swearing in of Missouri’s 58th governor and other statewide elected officials. Reducing crime and keeping Missourians safe are of utmost importance to me. I applaud the new governor for quickly launching his Safer Missouri public safety initiative, and I am excited to be working with him, his administration and my colleagues, prioritizing public safety and making Missouri a safer place to live, work and raise a family. Senate committee assignments for 2025 were announced, and I am proud to say I will serve as vice-chair on two committees: Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment as well as Local Government, Elections and Pensions. I am also looking forward to serving on the Appropriations and Education committees. For the next several weeks, bills will be assigned to pertinent Senate committees and hearings will be held, allowing witnesses to comment on proposed legislation. If you would like to be a witness in any of these hearings, please reach out to my office for assistance. After passing out of committee, bills may be perfected, voted on and sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Bills that pass both chambers are sent to the governor’s desk for his signature or veto. My colleagues and I have a great deal of work ahead of us, including passing the state operating budget for the next fiscal year, which is the Missouri Legislature’s only constitutional requirement. To date, more than 600 bills and resolutions have been filed and first read in the Senate. You can view a complete list of First Regular Session Senate bills by clicking the “Legislation” tab at senate.mo.gov. So far, I have filed 16 bills. You can visit senate.mo.gov/Henderson and click “Sponsored Bills” to learn more about my sponsored legislation. My later Capitol Reports will provide you with updates as my legislation progresses throughout the 2025 legislative session, which ends in May. Contact Us I am here to serve you. If I can be of any assistance with a state issue, please call my office at 573-751-4008. If you’re ever in Jefferson City, please stop by our beautiful State Capitol and visit me in Room 431. |
