CHICAGO – The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) and Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) are encouraging development teams not to wait and apply today for the Supportive Housing Institute (SHI), a program designed to equip groups with the knowledge and tools to create affordable housing with supportive services. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Teams applying to SHI must include a housing developer, property manager, and a supportive services partner. In addition, teams are encouraged to include a person with lived experience to help provide valuable insight on how to design their housing to allow future residents the opportunity to maintain stability and achieve a higher quality of life.
Those accepted into SHI will commit to attending two-day trainings in Springfield every month from March through June 2025 that will focus on the affordable housing development process. Over the four months, each team will identify a tenant population, finalize service and selection plans, identify unit size and composition, and ensure alignment with eligibility for federal and state funding programs. Upon completion, SHI participants will have created a fully developed and detailed supportive housing project designed to serve people who traditionally experience multiple barriers to stable housing. Throughout SHI, teams will be provided technical assistance, training, and additional resources to help access federal and state funding.
The SHI application and program information can be found online here.
Potential applicants who are interested in learning more about the program are strongly encouraged to watch a previously recorded webinar here.

About the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH)
CSH (Corporation for Supportive Housing) advances affordable and accessible housing aligned with services by advocating for effective policies and funding, equitably investing in communities, and strengthening the supportive housing field. Since our founding in 1991, CSH has been the only national nonprofit intermediary focused solely on increasing the availability of supportive housing. Over the course of our work, we have created more than 467,600 units of affordable and supportive housing and distributed over $1.5 billion in loans and grants. Our workforce is central to accomplishing this work. We employ approximately 170 people across 30 states and U.S. Territories. As an intermediary, we do not directly develop or operate housing but center our approach on collaboration with a wide range of people, partners, and sectors. For more information, visit www.csh.org.
