RED BUD, Ill. – State Representative David Friess (R-Red Bud) applauds Vistra Corp.’s recent announcement to extend the operations of the Baldwin Power Plant through 2027. This decision addresses critical energy reliability concerns in the region, creates jobs, supports the local economy, and furthers Illinois’ commitment to a sustainable energy future.
“The Baldwin Power Plant has been a cornerstone of our local economy for decades, and I am grateful for Vistra’s decision to extend its operations,” said Rep. Friess. “This move provides continued employment opportunities for hundreds of families in our community and ensures the reliability of our energy grid. Coal is good, reliable energy and I’m grateful for this extension as we work towards what comes next.”
The Baldwin Power Plant extension is expected to sustain approximately 298 full-time jobs, generate more than $41 million in income for local workers, and contribute over $262 million in regional economic output. The solar projects will also generate $6 million in property tax revenue over their lifespan, directly benefiting public services and schools in the area.
