Bloomsdale Elementary participates in annual Hour of Code

STE. GENEVIEVE — Bloomsdale Elementary participated in the annual Hour of Code this past week! Hour of Code is sponsored by code.org and began as a one-hour introduction to computer science to show that anyone can learn the basics of coding and to build more interest in the field of computer science, which is integrated into so many 21st-century career paths.

Throughout the week, students were engaged in coding activities that nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity, a solid foundation for any future career path! During their library class, students moved through stations that included learning how to use robots like BeeBots, robot mice, and Sphero indi, which is a learning robot that helps kids learn computational thinking, problem-solving, and STEAM skills through block coding and STEAM activities. Older students spent time on programs like Scratch Jr., Tynker, and Code.org, which is a nonprofit organization that aims to encourage students to learn about computer science.
