Jackson County Court hears first challenge to existing bans and abortion restrictions
Missourians for Constitutional Freedom
MISSOURI – On Dec. 4th 2024, members of the Missourians for Constitutional Freedom coalition to end the abortion ban and enshrine protections for reproductive freedom took the first step at establishing abortion care in our state.
Missouri’s Planned Parenthood and ACLU affiliates argued in court that a litany of anti-abortion statutes that led to the closure of Missouri abortion clinics are now blatantly unconstitutional.
Missourians’ constitutional rights to abortion and reproductive freedom officially take effect yesterday, December 5th.
Statement from Mallory Schwarz, executive director of Abortion Action Missouri:
“The case before the Court today is clear cut and the law is on our side. These medically unnecessary, politically motivated, and soon-to-be blatantly unconstitutional restrictions on Missourians’ access to abortion care were never about protecting people’s health and should not have existed in the first place. The momentous effort to establish constitutional protections to abortion access was Missouri grown– and our Missouri grown movement will stop at nothing to ensure the realization of a future of reproductive freedom for our state.”
