Smith fights to secure disaster relief for families impacted by severe weather in November

WASHINGTON – This week, U.S. Representative Jason Smith (Mo.), along with members of the Missouri congressional delegation, called on the Biden administration to move quickly to approve Missouri Governor Mike Parson’s request for a major disaster declaration following the severe weather that destroyed homes, businesses, and infrastructure and caused multiple deaths in southeast and south-central Missouri last month. The disaster declaration includes a total of 14 counties, 11 of which are located in Missouri’s 8th Congressional District.

“Last month’s deadly, severe weather caused significant damage and hardship across southeast and south-central Missouri,” said Smith. “Homes and businesses were destroyed, roads and bridges were swept away, and multiple lives were tragically lost. I urge the Biden administration to act swiftly to issue a disaster declaration, a necessary step in order for Missouri to access critically important resources. I’ll keep fighting to help the families, farmers, and small businesses that were impacted by the major storms and deadly flooding.”
