JEFFERSON CITY – A 29-year-old Perryville man was killed and a 28-year-old Perryville man was seriously injured in a traffic crash on I-55 in Cape Girardeau County Tuesday afternoon.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal R. W. Eakins in his accident report stated the 29-year-old man was pronounced at the scene by Cape Girardeau County Coroner Craig Williams, while the 28-year-old was taken to St. Francis Medical Center for treatment.
Corporal Eakins said the crash happened when a southbound 2003 Ford Ranger driven by the 28-year-old traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck the rear of a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche which was being driven south by an 18-year-old Cape Girardeau woman. After the impact the Ford overturned. The driver of the Avalanche was not hurt.
Corporal Eakins said the occupants of the Ford were unrestrained while the driver of the Avalanche was buckled up.
Both the Ranger and the Avalanche were a total loss. The Avalanche was left roadside and the Ranger was towed by Seyer’s Garage.
The crash happened about 4:24 p.m. nine miles north of Jackson.
