Ste. Genevieve names Daniel Halek to be new police chief

STE. GENEVIEVE — In a very brief meeting of the Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen Monday evening, the board voted 7-0 with one member absent to name Daniel Halek the city’s new police chief.

The resolution approved by the board set the new chief’s salary at $80,828.80.

Halek did not attend the meeting which was the culmination of a search for a new chief following the departure of the previous police chief, Jason Crump. Former Ste. Genevieve Police Chief Eric Bennett, now an alderman, was among those voting to hire Halek.

Halek was one of three candidates, narrowed from a initial nine who expressed an interest in the job. The three finalists were interviewed by the board November 14.

No date was set for Halek to begin his tenure as chief.

The meeting was shown live on SteGenTV Channel 991 and is now available on the SteGenTV You Tube channel: https://youtu.be/_PDLqCef1gM
