Wayne A. Voss

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 27, 3034 for 71-year-old Wayne A. Voss of Red Bud, who passed away at 5:45 pm, Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Mercy Hospital South, St. Louis, Missouri. 


He was born  Nov. 29, 1952 in Red Bud, a son of Harry and Jean (nee Junge) Voss who both preceded him in death.


Wayne married Jeanie Piper on March 12, 1973 in Lawton, Oklahoma; she survives in Red Bud.

 

He was an auctioneer for 54 years and retired as Randolph County Supervisor of Assessments after 28 years.


He is also survived by four children: Christopher (Natalie) Voss of Elgin, IL, Chadwick (Michele Kipping) Voss of Red Bud, IL, Tara Voss of Red Bud, IL and Derrick (Lori) Voss of Red Bud, IL; 10 siblings: Dennis (Donna) Voss of Prescott Valley, AZ, Lela (Harvey) Koester of New Athens, IL, Vernitta Wolter of Red Bud, IL, Randall (Carolyn) Voss of Red Bud, IL, Nola Jean (Sam) Vallett-Stickler of Walsh, IL, Mark (Angela) Voss of Red Bud, IL, Stanley (Janel) Voss of Red Bud, IL,Cindy Ebers of Red Bud, IL, Bonnie (TJ) Marshall of San Antonio, TX and Pam (Mike) Henry of Red Bud, IL; 13 grandchildren: Bryce, Gabe, Caleb and Piper Voss, Tyler Walhman, Gavin (Alexis) Roche-Voss, Kylie Keim Voss, Mason Voss, Haley, Presley, Isabel and Violet Billingsley and Finn Voss; a great grandchild: Oaklynn Roche-Voss and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


He was also preceded in death by his in-laws: Martin and Henrietta Moyer, three siblings: Verdella Voss, Thomas Voss and Timothy Voss, eight brothers and sisters-in-law: Floyd Wolter, Larry Ebers, Fran Altman, Patty Hart, Helen Magee, Lydia Burr, Mary Garrison and Earl (Sue) Piper II, three nephews: Keith Wolter, Matthew Voss and Eugene Baug, two great nieces: Charlee Kennedy and Morgan Wolter.

 

He was a United States Army Veteran.

 

Wayne was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Red Bud.

 

He was also a member of the Illinois Auctioneer Association where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

 

Wayne enjoyed playing cards with family and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

He also enjoyed reading, watching old westerns, traveling and trivia and he was the third best Jeopardy player.

 

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 at St. John’s

Lutheran Church, Red Bud, Illinois.
