October Chester Area Christian Food Pantry held

CHESTER –  The October 2024 Chester Area Christian Food Pantry, managed by Bob Koenegstein of the First United Methodist Church in Chester, held its monthly Mobile Market as it has for more than 17 years.

The monthly event was held Wednesday, October 23 at the Cohen Recreation Complex in Chester.

Shown here Barb Kittell of the CACFP discusses the apple sorting process with volunteers.

On this date there were approximately 25 volunteers from the community to assist with the sorting of food items and distribution of apples, dips, cookies, tea bags, sausage, fish, potatoes, and various other food items to approximately 90 automobiles.

Several Chester High School students volunteered their services at the October 2024 Chester Area Christian Food Pantry (CACFP) Mobile Market. Pictured are (left to right) are Peyton Dickson, Leslie Asbury, Any Miller, CHS Teacher, Brooklyn McClain, and Drew Wilderman. Students from Mrs. Miller’s Class have provided this service for years and enjoy assisting with the monthly distribution of healthy food to those in need. The participation not only helps the CACFP, but volunteering teaches the students the importance of helping others and builds self-esteem and improves life skills. The students not only benefit from volunteering, but they also provide much-needed assistance with distributing food to as many as 90-100 different families each month. In addition to the food distributed at the Mobile Market, the pantry served 214 households with 569 individuals.

The CACFP is now open on Wednesdays from 8-2. Donations are accepted for the pantry. Currently items needed include boxes of pasts meals, canned pasta, tuna fish and other easily prepared meals and items. Monetary donations are always accepted to help purchase items that are not donated.

The next Mobile Market will be Wednesday, November 27 at the Cohen Complex parking lot at 8:00 a.m. Thanksgiving food items will be available at that market.
