Jonas W. Jokerst

A funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 4, 2024 for 89-year-old Jonas W. Jokerst of Sainte Genevieve, MO

who passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus, MO.

 

He was born October 3, 1935 in Zell, MO the son of Valentine Jokerst and Emma (Huck) Jokerst who both preceded him in death.

 

He married LaVerne (Bahr) Jokerst February 7, 1959. She preceded him in death.

 

He is survived by three daughters: Vicky (Jerry) Hermann of Bloomsdale, MO, Becky (Ed) Fleischmann of Arnold, MO, and Tina (Gary) Bader of Sainte Genevieve, MO; two sons: Rodney (Paula) Jokerst of Lake Zurich, IL, and Eric (Michelle) Jokerst of Bloomsdale, MO; and two sisters: Bernice Bauman of Zell, MO, and Earlyn Wehner of Sainte Genevieve, MO; grandchildren: Jill (Jason) Hertlein, Kelly (Austin) Clark, Maria Hermann; EJ Fleischmann, Tricia (Doug) Kras, Nikki (Chase) DenDekker and Angella Miles; Andrew (Lindsey) Bader & Katie (Mike) Weinrich; Caroline Jokerst (Ben Sudkamp), Abby Jokerst (Casey McCartney), Natalie and William Jokerst; Emma, Brooke, Lydia and Owen Jokerst; great grandchildren: Nathan & Lucy Hertlein; Autumn, Jayden & Peyton Clark; Adriana & Aaliyah Miles; William & Adelyn DenDekker; Ava Kras; Brecken Bader; and Hayden Weinrich

 

He was also preceded in death by four brothers: Oswin Jokerst, Leander Jokerst, Victor Jokerst, and Flavian Jokerst; and a sister: Charlotte Grogg.

 

He was a member of Carpenters Local 2030 & American Legion Post 150.  

 

Jonas devoted over 60 years to his beloved wife, LaVerne, until her passing in 2019. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and love for their five grateful children, who carry forward his spirit and values.

 

A dedicated construction worker for over 40 years, His passion for building extended beyond his job; he built a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter and love, where family gatherings were cherished traditions.

 

A fierce competitor at the card table, he relished friendly games that brought out his playful spirit. No one was ever a stranger to him; he had a unique ability to connect with people, making friends wherever he went.

 

A lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, and Mizzou football & basketball teams, Jonas took great pleasure in cheering for his teams and sharing that enthusiasm with his family. The outdoors were his sanctuary, and he loved spending time at the family land, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, sons-in-law and grandkids.

 

An avid gardener with a remarkable green thumb, Jonas found joy in planting & caring his large garden. His backyard was a testament to his passion for nature. Family gatherings at his home were always filled with fun, card playing and delicious food, making his house a cherished hub for family and friends alike.

 

Above all, he adored his grandchildren, making their school events a priority whenever possible. His imparting wisdom and life lessons will resonate with them forever. Jonas’s legacy of love & laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2024 and 8-9:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4 at the Basler Funeral Home in Sainte Genevieve, MO.

 

A funeral for 89-year-old Jonas W. Jokerst of Sainte Genevieve will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2024 at the Church of Ste. Genevieve. The Clergy will be Rev. Jacob Wessell.

 

Burial will be at Valle Spring Cemetery in Sainte Genevieve, MO with full military honors.
