JEFFERSON CITY — Interactive maps at MOLottery.com have now been updated to reflect Missouri Lottery proceeds spent on public education in Missouri last fiscal year. These maps highlight the education programs that benefitted from Lottery funds, as well as the specific schools or school districts that received Lottery proceeds, in each of Missouri’s 114 counties and the City of St. Louis in FY24.
“We’re very proud that 100% of Lottery proceeds are sent to public education in Missouri,” said Lester Elder, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “We encourage everyone to go out to these maps to see just how Missouri Lottery benefits schools in your own community.”
Since the first Missouri Lottery ticket was sold in 1986, the Lottery has provided more than $8.3 billion to the state and public education. Disbursement of those funds is determined through the annual legislative budget process, at which time lawmakers define which programs will receive Lottery proceeds, as well as the amount allocated to each program.
In FY24, the Missouri Lottery provided $389.7 million to public education. Lottery proceeds typically represent about 4% of the total funding required to run Missouri’s public elementary, secondary and higher education systems. Funding education is an effort shared by local, state and federal governments.
