STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve County School District No. R-II celebrated its 2024 Homecoming last week, culminating with the homecoming dance Saturday night.
Monday through Friday, the schools held dress-up days, cheered on our sports teams and celebrated with our community in the Homecoming parade!
After Spirit Night on Wednesday, students cheered on our junior and senior girls during the annual Powder-puff game, which ended with a score of 22-6 in favor of the seniors. The girls and their coaches showed great sportsmanship throughout the evening!
During the high school pep assembly Friday afternoon, Jacob Schweigert was crowned the Ste. Genevieve High School’s 2024 homecoming king. Other members of the court were: freshman attendant Brandon Deck, sophomore attendant Mason Trollinger, junior attendant Alex Basler; and king candidates Isaiah Basler, Owen Bauman, Jonathan Bird, Shay Coleman, Seth Fischer, and Kaleb McBride.
Prior to the game, it was announced that the SGHS Chain Gang and Press Box crew were selected to receive the Southeast Missouri Distinguished Service Award for their dedication to the Ste. Genevieve Football program! Members of this group have served anywhere from 3 years to 47 years working Ste. Genevieve high school football games: Mike “Rabbit” Thomure, Randy Palmer, Eugene “Bum” Stoll, Ronnie “Bull” Palmer, Randy Hogenmiller, Derek Schumer, Art Armbruster, Paul Ahrens and Tim Donze.
Ste. Genevieve High School took on Fredericktown for a 35-19 win on Friday night!
During the coronation ceremony at halftime, Ava Greer was crowned the Ste. Genevieve High School’s 2024 homecoming queen.
Other members of the court were: freshman attendant Khloe Ellis, sophomore attendant Launa Gegg, junior attendant Kyrah Kreitler; and queen candidates Karlie Basler, Abby Boyer, Kale Clements, Brooklyn Johnson, Olivia Klump, and Kristen Wittu.

This year, Delaney Thompson and Cooper Keim were the miniature cheerleader and football player at the game.
The winners of the week’s various competitions were also recognized during the game.
The most spirited class at the high school pep assembly was the sophomores. The winners of the float competition were: 1) juniors, 2) freshmen, 3rd) seniors and 4) sophomores. Congratulations to all of the classes for a job well done!
The week’s festivities concluded with the Homecoming Dance, held in the Peggy J. Johnson Gymnasium Saturday night.
