R-2, Valle Schools prepare to launch Red Ribbon Week Oct. 21

STE, GENEVIEVE – Red Ribbon Week will be held the week of Oct. 21 in Ste. Genevieve County!

On Oct. 8, students from the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Leadership Council and students from Ste. Genevieve High School and Valle Catholic Schools gathered with Ste. Genevieve City Administrator Happy Welch, Chief of Police Jasen Crump and Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jason Schott to sign a Proclamation declaring Oct. 21 – 25 to be Red Ribbon Week in Ste. Genevieve County! Schools throughout the county will observe Red Ribbon week the week of Oct. 21.

Throughout the week, teachers will share lessons and discussions provided through Red Ribbon Week resources to make connections with the week’s programming. Third grade, elementary and preschools and daycares will experience presentations from the Ste. Genevieve Police Department and the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office, as well as meet our local K-9 units!

ThinkFirst Assemblies will present to high school students from around the county at the SG R-II Performing Arts Center. This foundation creates education programs aimed at helping people learn to reduce their risk for injury. Their presentations share how an injury can change a person’s life forever and how important it is to make safe choices.

Ste. Genevieve County R-II schools will celebrate the theme through dress-up days, which were created by SGHS SADD students! Businesses and schools who would like to participate can see the list of dress-up days below!

  • Monday: “Put Drugs to Rest”- Wear Pajamas
  • Tuesday: “I’m Bright Because I’m Drug-Free”- Wear Neon
  • Wednesday: “Drugs Make Me See Red”- Wear Red (Community-wide)
  • Thursday: “I Elect to Be Drug-Free”- Patriot Day

On Wednesday, we encourage our community members to join in and wear red to show that we are one community with one goal of working to support a drug-free community. Local businesses and organizations are invited to wear red ribbons with our students and staff throughout the week.

We look forward to celebrating the upcoming Red Ribbon Week with our community! Our local schools would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those local businesses and organizations who continue to support our students.
