Missouri Community College Association Student Leadership Institute empowers future leaders and connects with legislators

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Community College Association (MCCA) held its Student Leadership Institute in Jefferson City. Nearly 100 Missouri community college student leaders and college student services staff attended this event, which provided them with an opportunity to receive leadership training and directly engage with legislators.

Through this annual event, student leaders, often newly elected, are provided with leadership skills and knowledge that they can apply when they enter the workforce. During this session, participants connected with their respective Missouri legislators and gained insights about how these lawmakers contribute to the vital work Missouri’s community colleges do.

Key highlights of the event included two leadership sessions designed to highlight student advocacy and how student voices shape campus culture and community and transform knowledge into action.

“The Student Leadership Institute prepares our future leaders with essential skills and real-world insights while providing them with a platform to directly engage with Missouri lawmakers,” said Brian Millner, President & CEO for MCCA. “Through this experience, they strengthen their leadership abilities and gain a deeper understanding of how legislative decisions affect community colleges and the workforce they serve.”
