STE. GENEVIEVE – Get excited for the Spirit of Pink “Barbie” style. The highly anticipated breast cancer awareness event is on for another year with a “Barbie” theme. It’s time for women of all ages to come together and shine a light on breast cancer awareness empowering women to prioritize their health.
The 14th annual event hosted by Metis Breast Care Center, a service of Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) will take place on Thursday, October 10, at 5:30 pm at the KC Hall, 600 Market Street in Ste. Genevieve, MO.
The program will feature Rebecca Buchanan from the Pink Penguin Project, a local non-profit dedicated to bringing hope, support and resources to young women battling cancer. Participants will also enjoy an evening of appetizers, mocktails, fun photos, music by Abby Fischer and more!
“I think women will enjoy learning about the Pink Penguin Project,” said Dr. Theresa Cavins, breast surgeon and director of Metis Breast Center at the Bloomsdale Medical Centre. “Especially since they are an organization right here in our area whose mission is to bring hope, support and, resources to women battling breast and other cancers.”
Each year, organizers make the event fun, educational and inspiring. This year’s event will be extra special since the event’s theme is Barbie to help promote empowering women to prioritize their health.
“This will be an exciting moment for us,” said Dr. Cavins. “Women can dress as different types of Barbie to show how they are committed to their health, it will be lots of fun.”
Theresa Cavins, MD and Mary Crecelius, WHNP will extend a warm welcome to start off the night. The event will include lots of food, fun and mock tails including a photo booth. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there will be information available on genetic testing, breast cancer prevention and treatment. Participants who dress up like a Barbie will be highlighted and cancer survivors will be honored.
Ladies of all ages are welcome to attend. Cost for the event is $15, and participants are encouraged to RSVP and pay online at stegenevievehospital.org under News and Events for this limited seating event. Cancer survivors are free but need to register at 573-883-7791.
