Barbara “Barb” Janett Steiger, nee Schweigert, 81, of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, was born on January 29, 1943, in Ozora, Missouri. She was called home to eternal rest on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
Barb was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She worked daily ensuring the care of her family, while also providing loving childcare for the children of many families who considered her a second Mom. Blessed with a true “green thumb,” she would spend time working for a local florist and was a Master Gardener. Her natural ability for growing and nurturing God’s created beauty in plants and floral arrangements brought much joy to her and those who would enjoy her work, and later contributions to the Hill and Garden Club, Bloomsdale. In later years she worked at the Ste. Genevieve County Public Library, providing sincere customer service to library patrons. Her own love for reading and learning made this not so much a job, but rather an opportunity to share her many gifts—it was a textbook fit for her. She displayed an artistic knack as well, as her created ceramics pieces and figurines still find places of honor in her and family homes. She was an alumni of Valle Catholic High School. Her love for and avid supporter of Valle sports, especially Warrior Football, ran deep as she rarely missed a game. She enjoyed fifty years of playing cards with friends and mostly luncheons with her classmates. She volunteered her time during the floods of ’93 for the Red Cross. Barb’s greatest joy in retirement was being with her grandkids and great grandkids, and taking part in any and all family gatherings and events. Fourth of July picnics at her Lake Forest home, with family, friends, food, drink and fireworks, were just some of the many highlights of her year. We are all the benefactors of her full, happy and caring life. May God Rest Her Soul!
